Graston Technique or Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM).
Graston is used to break down scar tissue resulting from protective measures taken by the body after an injury. Scar tissue (connective tissue over muscles, ligaments and tendons) thickens over time and can cause adhesion in the muscle tissue and restrictions in the joints. Graston thus is used to reduce scar tissue, increase mobilization and decrease adhesion in the muscles. It also helps to increase blood flow throughout the body and encourages rehabilitation within the muscle tissue.
